Intake Procedure

Evaluation Procedure

Step 1: Parent/Caregiver Interview The first part of the assessment is an interview with the parents to collect detailed information on current symptoms, as well as family history of any mental health issues. The child is not brought to these sessions. In addition, the parents are given several screening questionnaires to complete. Often, there will be a second interview after meeting with the child.

Step 2: Child Interviews The next step in the intake assessment are two separate interviews with the child. These sessions are spent building rapport and discussing current problems in a friendly, fun environment. The child is also asked to complete several age-appropriate questionnaires.

Step 3: Findings and Treatment Options The final component is a session in which the findings from the screening tools and intake sessions are discussed and different treatment options are provided to the family. Depending on the age of the child, all family members are encouraged to attend. Every family is given results from their questionnaires and receives a one page summary of findings.
